2016 Year End Giving

Remember these cute boys in 2014?  They are in sixth grade now.  Their last year at San Luis Obispo Christian School.  Where has the time gone?

As we wrap up 2016, we wanted to reflect on the goodness of God.  We serve an awesome God!  He has been faithful to keep our doors open because of donors like these boys, and donors like you! Thank you.

“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” I Chronicles 16:34

We hope that you might consider showing your support by considering us as one of your favorite non-profit organization in your year-end giving for 2016!  Please join us by financially partnering with us to support families at our school through the Ebenezer Assistance Program.  You can learn more about this program and how it has impacted families at our school by visiting our sponsorship page here: http://www.slocs.com/sponsorship/

We appreciate your prayerful consideration in giving to our Ebenezer Assistance Program. We would love for you to partner with SLOCS as we….

Make disciples, develop scholars, and build community, all for the glory of God!

SLOCS is a community of followers of Jesus Christ committed to seeing the life of Christ formed in their children through the discovery of God’s creation. Indeed it “takes a village to raise a child” and our SLOCS “village” is intent on partnering with each family to build intelligence, wisdom, creativity, leadership skills, and Godly character into their children. Parents will be supported in their childrens’ education through a staff that daily loves them with the love of Christ and is eager to see every student thrive through individual attention. Parents will also find fellowship with other parents who share their passion for raising the next generation of Christ-followers. Students help one another in their discovery of who God is and how that works itself out in life and learning.

Reading Round Up

Reading Round Up is a week from this Friday.  This event is our alternative to celebrating Halloween. Students will spend the morning circulating into each classroom for special activities centered around children’s literature. The students are to bring their favorite book and come dressed as their favorite character from the book. This is a special event that the students look forward to every year. As a staff we love it because it promotes literacy and we can use the time to focus on certain aspects of literature, such as learning about different genres, comparing illustrations, character development, and so much more! Plus, the students have so much fun, they hardly realize they are learning!

Life 89.3

Life893Logo_Revised_2Have you heard our blurb on the new Life 89.3? We were recently contacted by their staff and asked to come and record a short interview. And get this, it was all for free! This prompted us to learn more about Life 89.3 and the recent changes they are making and can we just say, WOW! We are impressed!

Here at SLOCS part of our mission is building community so we were really excited to hear that community is equally as important to Life 89.3!  Here is what they have to say about the recent changes and their commitment to community:

“It’s not so much about change as it is about returning to the original founders’ intent to be closely connected with our Christian community.  We have a strategic plan to come alongside local Christian nonprofit organizations, ministries, and churches to help them better share how they are serving Jesus by serving others along the Central Coast.”

After recording we obviously wanted to hear it run live on the radio so a few of our staff members started listening to Life daily. Much to our surprise we liked it so much we decided to make the switch permanently! We challenge you to listen and see if you might enjoy it too! And when you hear us on the radio, let us know! 🙂

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child

Last week our students saw a film during chapel about Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. Our school has decided to participate in this amazing program this year. Here is what you need to know.

Starting Monday, November 3rd, we will begin collecting items that we will package together in shoeboxes as a school.

These are the kinds of items we are looking for:

Toys: Dolls, deflated soccer balls with pumps, cars, puzzles, jump ropes, etc.

School Supplies: Pencils, pens, crayons, notebooks, coloring books, etc.

Non-liquid Hygiene Items: Toothbrushes, bar soap, washcloths, combs, etc.

Accessories: Socks, hats, t-shirts, flip flops, hair bands, sunglasses, etc.

These items need to be appropriate for children ages 5-9.

Please do not include any used or damaged items, any war-related items, balloons, seeds, chocolate or food, liquids or lotions, medicines or vitamins, or any breakable items. Also, please be considerate if shopping at the dollar store. We do not want items that will break easily or wear out quickly.

We also will need $7 per box to cover shipping cost so please consider money donations as well.

Lastly, if you would like to donate plastic shoe boxes, this would be helpful in making sure the items remain intact during shipping. Please no plastic boxes from the dollar store, as we have had experiences with them breaking easily.

So there you have it! 🙂 Please start collecting these items with your children. Encourage them to earn and use their own money to help buy supplies. Begin asking neighbors, family and friends to help us out!

We will be collecting these items over the month of November, and we will assemble them as a school on November 21st before our all school Thanksgiving Pie Feast.

We are very excited about this opportunity as it fulfills our mission of #buildingcommunity and #makingdisciples as we educate our students! Please be praying this month for the success of this program, and that it would be a great learning experience for your children, blessing both our school and the children who will be receiving these items.

“We are so very thankful for ‘the village’ our precious daughter gets to be a part of here at San Luis Obispo Christian school, and know that the teachers, faculty, board members and fellow students our daughter has gotten to know here at SLOCS will forever be people she looks back on who showed her Christ’s love during some of her earliest memories of life.”
